Yes, it is finally that time of year again. After a very long and stressful winter we’ve finally made it to summer and now we can properly enjoy it! With shops finally open, there’s no shortage of things to do and coupled with the lovely weather there’s nothing stopping us from making the best out of this difficult year and having a great summer, so here are a few things you can do to make the most of it.
First things first, you can’t go wrong with a classic barbecue. If you haven’t already had one, then set a date, because now’s the time to make some fresh lemonade and get your tongs out. You could even introduce some friendly competition with a game of football or badminton. That being said, do make sure to be conscious of the coronavirus and follow the current safety regulations so we can have plenty more barbecues in the future!
Next, why not book tickets to the Thatcham Town Council’s Fun Day on the 27th June 2021? Brought to Henwick Worthy Sports Field, this is the perfect opportunity to have a stress-free day strolling through the fair and trying all the different foods on offer – there’s even a petting farm! If you do come along especially make sure to visit the annual Car Show held by the Rotary Club, where classic cars and motorcycles will be on display. It should be a great day out with something for everyone to enjoy, no matter what age.

If you can’t make it to the Fun Day, don’t worry because there’s still plenty more going on, including the Newbury Retro Festival from 13th-15th August. If you feel like going back in time for the day, then this is definitely the event for you as there will be many stalls selling vintage items at the shopping village and even a burlesque cabaret show. The best part is that if you feel like you haven’t gotten your fill in just one day then you can also book to camp for up to 4 nights! Be sure to book your tickets before 6 August though, so you don’t miss out.

Finally, if you’re reading all about these events but realising that you’ve already booked up the summer months there’s no need to feel left out, because Rotary is hosting a Duck Race on the 5th of September. It will take place on the canal by the Rowbarge Inn, Woolhampton and will be a chance to get out of the house before school starts for some light-hearted fun, watching to see whose duck will be the winner. More information will be released closer to the date, but I have no doubts that it will not disappoint.

I’ve only mentioned the tip of the iceberg here, but there’s so much more that you can take part in, so there’s no excuse not to celebrate and make this summer one to remember!
