Sustainability Spotlight Launch

Welcome to our Sustainability Spotlight!

Our environment is vital to our existence, and we believe that we can all do more to protect it. Many changemakers such as Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough have kickstarted the sustainable revolution by raising awareness of environmental issues, but the concept of sustainability needs to be reflected on a local and more accessible level.

Sustainability is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance”. Although this may seem something out of reach on a personal level, with the forces of single-use plastic, fast-fashion and carbon emissions at play, simple changes in our daily lives can benefit our planet and our own futures.

Recently, Rotary International made protecting the environment one of their key areas of focus. Projects include those to do with climate change, friendly persuasion and helping the environment. Using this Rotary pillar as inspiration, the aim of our Sustainability Spotlight is to make information on key sustainability issues more easily available, particularly from the viewpoint of students. Content will include everything from shopping habits to psychological impacts of climate change, with plans to create our own projects and challenges along the way.

Be on the lookout for our Sustainability Spotlight posts found on our blog and on social media channels with the hashtag #sustainablesaturday !
